Kenneth Cole Under Fire for Egypt Tweet

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine

Fashion Faux Pas

Fashion designer Kenneth Cole got into trouble over a tweet he posted that joked about the situation in Egypt.

Cole wrote -- "Millions are in an uproar in Cairo… rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online."

The blowback online was substantial with many slamming the designer as insensitive. One writer posted -- "Good luck getting this classic and comfortable loafer that pairs just as well with a business meeting as with casual Fridays out of your pie-hole, Cole."

Cole later apologized, saying his post was -- quote -- "Poorly timed and absolutely inappropriate."

Forward-leaning

Another interesting post came late today when the White House put out a press release with this title -- "Obama Administration Celebrates Black History by Winning the Future."

That title prompted quick response on Twitter.

The usually administration-friendly Huffington Post tweeted the release, adding -- quote -- "That wasn't a joke."

And Huffington Post reporter Sam Stein responded by writing -- quote -- "I'm gonna celebrate happy hour tonight by winning the future."

That phrase from the president's State of the Union Address has been getting a lot of attention and ridicule.

ABC's Jake Tapper tweeted Thursday night -- "Are we winning the future -- yet?"

Party Foul

And finally, White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett was dealing with a party hangover this week for accidentally ordering a drink from Army Vice Chief of Staff Peter Chiarelli at a black tie dinner last weekend.

Jarrett confused the general with a waiter, even though he was wearing a dress uniform with medals on his chest and his four stars on his sleeves. Attendees said she was not wearing her glasses and was quickly mortified.

Chiarelli laughed it off and brought her a glass of wine as a joke. Jarrett later sent Chiarelli a note saying she'll serve him a drink next time. The General then invited her to dinner next month.
