Joe Biden Answers Call to Serve

Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Regular Joe

It was shaping up to be just another normal day for jury selection at the New Castle County Courthouse in Delaware, until Vice President Joe Biden s howed up.

One woman said she didn't even realize the vice president was a part of her jury pool.

Biden, who was eventually dismissed, told a local paper he believes it is important to serve when called -- quote -- "it is an honor to be a part of the system. I hope the president serves in Chicago, if he is called."

Actually, President Obama was summoned for jury duty in Chicago last January, but told the court he wouldn't be able to make it.

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan was also summoned for jury duty and showed up last week at D.C. Superior Court, but was also of course dismissed.

Let's Get Together

Bipartisan seating at Tuesday's State of the Union is catching on. About 60 lawmakers have signed onto Colorado Democratic Senator Mark Udall's proposal.

New York Democratic Senator Charles Schumer will sit with Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn. The House whips plan to do the same. Maine Republican Olympia Snowe will sit next to Louisiana Democrat Mary Landrieu.

And Republican Pete King tells Politico he and his "date" -- Democrat Anthony Weiner -- will still disagree on things -- quote -- "Anthony and I are not going to be sitting there holding hands. It's not 'kumbaya.' We may end up doing dueling press conferences afterward."

Musical Chairs

There was another seating issue at the jazz concert in the East Room of the White House immediately following last Wednesday's state dinner.

The Star Ledger reports New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie and his wife went to their reserved seats, only to find singer Barbra Streisand and actor James Brolin occupying them.

White House staff ushered away the Hollywood couple.

One insider tells the paper -- quote -- "now I know the world has really changed when they're moving Barbra Streisand and James Brolin out of seats that are reserved for Christie."
