Harry Reid Ignores Illegal Immigration Facts

Reid My Lips

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid apparently doesn't think there are any illegal immigrants working in construction in his home state of Nevada.

A local TV reporter told Reid, "When you go to the unemployment office there's many U.S. citizens who are unemployed construction workers and they don't have jobs because right now some of those construction companies find it easier to hire undocumented workers."

Reid responded, "I think that any information you have in that regard is absolutely without foundation."

When the reporter then cited a Pew Hispanic Center study that shows 17 percent of all construction workers are in the U.S. illegally, Reid said, "That may be someplace -- but it's not here in Nevada."

However, Pew's 2009 numbers show Nevada is the state with the highest percentage of unauthorized immigrants in the labor force.

Trying to get more business for the region after the oil spill, first lady Michelle Obama is encouraging Americans to vacation along the Gulf Coast; even if her family is not choosing to.

Mrs. Obama said during her first visit to the area since the spill, "It is vacation time. Folks are looking for things to do with their kids, and this would be a great opportunity to do a few things, help this community -- send a different message about the extent of the spill."

But the Obama travel folks apparently didn't get that message. This weekend the first family will head to Maine for some r-and-r.

A political party in the Czech Republic is showing off its female representation in a new calendar that features some scantily clad politicians.

The London Telegraph reports the Public Affairs Party candidate for the Prague mayor's office says, "Women's political influence is growing. Why not show we are women who aren't afraid of being sexy?"

A popular women's magazine in that country even had a "Miss Parliament" contest. There are doubts that a Mr. or Miss Congress contest could be as appealing here in the U.S.
