Car Trouble for Marion Barry

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Car Trouble

Washington, D.C. councilman and former Mayor Marion Barry is having car trouble.

The Washington Post found Barry has been driving with inactive plates for more than six months and the car isn't registered with the DMV. He apparently has tags from his old car on his new Jaguar.

A Barry spokesman says the dealership where he bought the car misplaced the title. But D.C. police say an officer told Barry in December he couldn't drive his car until it was registered.

Tea Team

The Tea Party is backing a NASCAR team.

Driver Chris Lafferty says he wanted to do something patriotic so he joined up with TheTeaParty.Net. Until the 2012 election his vehicle will be called "We the People's Truck."

But the tie-in is different from others in NASCAR. The Tea Party is not paying Lafferty. Any money donated by fans will be split between The Tea Party and the race team.

Break It Up

And, it's becoming a popular refrain, but the target is not what you'd expect. A state representative in Montana is going after laws which he says are job killers that hurt small businesses.

But, he's going after DUI laws and the small businesses are local bars.

(BEGIN CLIP)

STATE REP. ALAN HALE, R-MONT.: These DUI laws are not doing our small businesses in our state any good, at all; they're destroying them. They're destroying a way of life that has been in Montana for years and years. These -- these taverns and bars in these smaller communities connect people together. They're the center of the communities.

(END CLIP)

By the way, Representative Hale and his wife own a bar in Montana.
