And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...
Bad Hair Day
The Senate barber shop may soon get clipped. The Daily reports the shop ran almost $300,000 in the red last year but received $230,000 in taxpayer money to stay open.
Now the sergeant at arms says privatization is the only solution.
Former Illinois Senator Peter Fitzgerald blames the stylists who are federal employees.
He points out they make more than double their counterparts at Capitol Barber three blocks away. Plus unlike those competitors, the Senate barbers have a 401k plan, health care and paid vacation.
Too Close for Comfort?
The Liberal web site Media Matters reportedly has a very close relationship with the Obama administration at the top level, including meetings at the White House with Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett and weekly strategy calls with the White House and progressive leaders.
The first installment of an investigative series by the Daily Caller found that Media Matters tracks the stories it feeds reporters and has orchestrated campaigns to get conservative personalities fired.
The Daily Caller cites current and former employees of Media Matters as saying the group's leader, David Brock, exhibits erratic, obsessive and manic behavior including fears about being killed by right wing snipers fears that led him to hire an armed security guard who carried a concealed handgun to events in Washington D.C. without a permit, something that's illegal here.
We asked Media Matters for a comment but so far have not heard back.
Go West Young Man
A brother-in-law of Usama bin Laden says the Al Qaeda leader told his children to move to the United States or Europe for a good education.
The Sunday Times reports bin Laden did not want his family following in his jihadist footsteps telling them to study and live in peace -- and quote -- "don't do what I am doing or what I have done."
The brother-in-law says bin Laden struggled with regret over the impact that the 9/11 attacks had on his family.
Bin Laden was killed by U.S. Navy SEALs last spring.
