Changing Tune for Carney?

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

Now and Then

White House press secretary Jay Carney is whistling a different tune now when it comes to presidential vacations than when he was writing for Time Magazine i n 2001.

Back then, Carney was critical of then-President George W. Bush's Texas getaway in an article titled "A Vacationing Bush Works Hard for His Photo-Ops." Carney wrote about how aides were trying to -- quote -- "persuade the public that he wasn't actually on vacation in the generally accepted sense of what vacation means."

Now, Carney is defending President Obama's upcoming 10-day Martha's Vineyard holiday, despite an unstable U.S. economy.

Carney told reporters -- quote -- "There's no such thing as a presidential vacation. The presidency travels with you."

For Love or Money

Billionaire financier George Soros is being sued by a former girlfriend.

Brazilian soap opera star Adriana Ferreyr -- who is 28 -- says Soros -- who is 80 -- reneged on a promise to buy her an apartment in New York City. She says he gave the apartment to his new girlfriend and wants $50 million. She also says he attacked her in bed.

Soros' lawyer calls the lawsuit frivolous and tells the New York Post -- quote -- "George Soros did not slap, choke or throw a lamp at her."

Putin on a Show

And finally, the ever-adventurous Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin donned a wet suit Wednesday for a scuba dive into the Black Sea.

State news reports he went just down 6.5 feet and luckily came across two sixth century Byzantine urns -- an amazing find.

It must have been beginner's luck, because it was only Putin's third attempt at scuba diving.
