Putin Compares U.S. to Parasites

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Thanks for Nothing?

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is comparing the U.S. to a parasite following the debt limit debate -- quote -- "they are living beyond their means and shifting a part of the weight of their problems to the world economy. They are living like parasites off the global economy and their monopoly of the dollar."

The debt deal led Russian stocks to jump to three-month highs.

Putin made the comments at a political youth camp where he climbed a wall without a harness and tried to bend a frying pan with his bare hands.

Deal of the Century

Vice President Joe Biden is getting more than just protection from the Secret Service -- he's getting paid. The agency currently rents a cottage next to Biden's Delaware home for $2,200 a month.

Biden has already collected more than $13,000 and the entire contract with the Secret Service is worth $66,000.

A spokesman for the secret service tells Fox -- quote -- "having our command post in close proximity to the vice president's residence affords us a level of security that we wouldn't have otherwise."

We can find no other examples of a similar arrangement. But, back in 2001, Bill and Hillary Clinton declined payments from the agency of about a thousand dollars a month for space on their Chappaqua, New York property.

The Naked Truth

And finally, Marines at Camp Pendleton are fighting an invasion of nudists on their San Diego beach. Media reports say the sunbathers have taken over the shores of Gold Beach after Park Rangers ran them off other sites.

The Marines say they do not want any civilians -- with or without clothes -- on that beach, which is used to train for amphibious assaults.
