NEIL CAVUTO, HOST OF “YOUR WORLD”: I want to bring the governor into this here, the former Arkansas governor, the host of "Huckabee," Mike Huckabee, joining me right now.
You know, Governor, I’m just thinking of what this young guy goes through, what the folks in that audience go through. And I’m thinking to myself, my idea of like going through heavy battle is skipping dessert.
(LAUGHTER) CAVUTO: Night and day, night and day.
MIKE HUCKABEE (R), FORMER ARKANSAS GOVERNOR: We sometimes forget, Neil, not only the sacrifice of the men and women in uniform. I think we forget the sacrifice of their families, their wives, their children.
CAVUTO: Absolutely.
HUCKABEE: Oftentimes, they’re without their husband or dad for 18 months at a time, and it’s not like they are going on a wonderful trip and they’re just going and making some money. They’re getting shot at.
They’re having people who are leaving bombs, so they can step on them. And every time the phone rings and every time they hear the -- the e-mail pop up on their screen, they have to wonder, is this the bad news they feared the most? It’s an incredible sacrifice that every American ought to get on our knees every night and thank God we have these folks doing their jobs.
CAVUTO: You know, it’s interesting, too, because as this Navy SEAL pointed out, Governor, you do stir up a hornet’s nest. We saw indications of that, a protest in -- in Syria today, in Yemen today, throughout Pakistan today, big ones in Pakistan, where we found Usama bin Laden.
So, every time we -- we try to respond to the terror, we -- we incite more reaction, don’t we?
HUCKABEE: Well, we do, because this is not a typical kind of conflict where we’re fighting over a piece of territory, and as soon as we win it, then everything’s fine. It’s not.
These are ideological monsters who -- who truly believe that we all ought to be dead. And one thing I think we have to really look at with a great deal of concern is its one thing to see these people rallying for Usama bin Laden in Pakistan. That’s troubling.
But when I see this in the U.K., I wonder, who are these people? Who on God’s Earth will get out and rally behind a person who murdered in cold blood thousands of innocent men, women and children, whose only crime was going to work?
CAVUTO: You know what is interesting, Governor? A lot of those guys who did that, though, they said that they welcomed the death of Usama bin Laden. They didn’t like the way we did it. What do you make of that?
HUCKABEE: How -- who cares how we did it?
This is a monster. This was a maniac murderer who, in cold blood, plotted and carried out one of the most hideous attacks on innocent people. It was not an attack against our military. It was an attack against civilians. And even in the most evil of times, we often at least have some kind of maniacal leader who understands that the primary attack is upon the military.
Even take Pearl Harbor. The attack was against military installations, not indiscriminate attack against civilian institutions. Only since Hitler, who thought he would just completely annihilate every Jewish person, have we seen anybody with this kind of fanaticism that we’ve encountered, in terms of our own culture.
CAVUTO: Let me ask you something -- and Ben was bringing this up with me -- the danger of appearing arrogant, as the president put it, spiking the ball.
But doesn’t this risk doing that? I know that’s not the intention here, but if you over whoop it up, you’re giving that very impression.
HUCKABEE: Well, that’s may be a risk, but let’s be honest. Nothing we do makes the radical Islamic jihadists calm down and say, oh, well, they’re OK now, those Americans. They don’t hate us because we rallied. They hate us because we’re free. They hate us because we treat women with respect.
CAVUTO: So, no matter what we do, Governor, we’d be marked, right?
HUCKABEE: We will never satisfy them because they are not satisfied because of the way we act or behave, when we are the most civil people on Earth.
Tell me, what were those people in the Trade Center doing that day that was so offensive? Nothing. They were going to work. They were just trying to put a paycheck in the bank so they could feed their families. And they were murdered for that.
CAVUTO: And I believe they were -- I believe they were unarmed, which was an issue with Usama bin Laden.
HUCKABEE: Absolutely. That’s the...
CAVUTO: But we are picking apart this entire raid nearly a week ago, right, Governor, and: Was he armed or not?
HUCKABEE: It doesn’t matter.
CAVUTO: Did he try to surrender or not?
What do you make of that…
HUCKABEE: It doesn’t matter.
CAVUTO: ... this constant churning over it?
HUCKABEE: You know, the point is, thank God for those military people that put their lives on the line. The mission could have easily gone the other way and could have been a disaster.
I’m grateful that President Obama made the decision he did. He deserves all the accolades that he’s getting and more, because he had the guts to say, let’s do it. And it was risky. It was risky for those Special Forces individuals who went in and carried out and executed the mission.
And for now people to start nitpicking and second-guessing, well, maybe we should have done it a different way, well, let them sign up, get in uniform, go through the training that your guest has gone through, and let them do it a different way.
In the meantime, they need to just be grateful the man is dead. And the rest of us need to shut up about how he did it, and be glad it’s been done.
