(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JOY BEHAR, CO-HOST, ABC'S "THE VIEW": Giuliani is not. Romney is not. She's the only one going. Um...Fred Thompson is not going. What are they afraid of? They don't have the black vote anyway, so they're not going to go....
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And Morgan stayed.
BEHAR: Fred Thompson is not going. What are they afraid of? They don't have the black vote anyway, so they're not going to go. Is that what that's about?
ELISABETH HASSELBECK, CO-HOST, ABC'S "THE VIEW": I don't know. I think — it's interesting to look ato. Go ahead.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG, CO-HOST, ABC'S "THE VIEW": I was just going to say it was interesting to find also that they did not show up for the Hispanic forum, either.
HASSELBECK: ... didn't show up — didn't show up to the...
BEHAR: Scheduling conflicts. What, are they all at a Klan meeting at the same time?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: All right. That was "View" co-host Joy Behar, making offensive remarks about Republican presidential candidates. Did her comments go too far?
Joining us now, WABC Radio Talk Show Host, Curtis Sliwa; and author of "Happy Endings", comedian and radio host, Jim Norton.
I'm going to guess, Curtis, you think she went too far. You're all outraged. "How dare she — how dare this comedian say this horrible thing about the Republicans," right?
CURTIS SLIWA, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: Joy-less Behar? I mean...
COLMES: You worked with her at WABC.
SLIWA: Oh yeah — I worked with her. She used to come on after me in the mornings, and no show prep. Didn't read the papers. Thought she could do one-liners for two hours.
COLMES: So you want to personally attack her now because you didn't like the truth
SLIWA: No, no no, it's not, it's because we grew up in the same neighborhood.
SLIWA: So for this woman to suddenly cast dispersions against Republicans, going to Klan meetings. Let me tell you something.
COLMES: It's a joke. She's a comedian.
SLIWA: Let me tell you — excuse me. She was an Italian-American princess, a limousine liberal who lives on the Left bank of the liberal progressive area of Manhattan where there are no black people.
COLMES: What does that have to do with this? What does this have to do with this?
SLIWA: And the neighborhood she grew up in, Alan — this is important.
COLMES: You're way off topic.
SLIWA: They used to run blacks out of the neighborhood with baseball bats!
COLMES: Wait a minute. Are you accusing Joy Behar of being anti- black?
SLIWA: No, because she was an Italian-American princess. She was getting — the pedicure.
COLMES: First of all, I noticed — I didn't hear the outrage on the part of Republicans when Rick Santorum said Bush is — he said that Bush's judicial nominees were the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942, saying "I'm in Paris, how dare you invade me."
He compared the Democratic Party to Adolf Hitler. Nobody got upset about that. The fact that...
JIM NORTON, COMEDIAN/RADIO HOST: The fact that we are talking about "The View".
COLMES: I know.
NORTON: We should all be in a stall next to Larry Craig. Why are we staying here? When she's a comic. It was a good joke. She didn't mean anything by it. Ann Coulter says stupid things all the time.
NORTON: Stupid Jesse Jackson just said what he said about Obama acting white.
COLMES: Allegedly. Allegedly.
NORTON: Eh, we just loved it.
COLMES: One reporter says so.
NORTON: Look people love — we just love to snivel and bellyache about what people say that we don't agree with. Americans are becoming a nation of watchers.
COLMES: As Curtis said, my friends on the right only get upset when so-called liberals say things about conservatives. I may be outraged when Ted Nugent refers to Obama as "a piece of excrement", or Hillary a "worthless bitch".
I don't hear the outrage when Ted Nugent makes comments like that.
SLIWA: Excuse me. Do they have the platform like "The View" that goes into the households of America?
COLMES: Yes. As a matter of fact, they do.
SLIWA: No they don't.
COLMES: Rick Santorum has the ability to legislate.
SLIWA: Oh yeah. C-Span. He talks on C-Span to four people — who are watching it at home.
COLMES: No, No. He's a senator. When he compares Democrats to Nazis, he's got a lot more power than Joy Behar does.
SLIWA: Can I ask you a question?
COLMES: Yes, You can. Please do.
SLIWA: Do you — do you personally believe that Republicans go to Klan meetings? Because the Head Klansman would be Senator Byrd of West Virginia — "Joy-less" Behar!"...
COLMES: Of course not. Of course not. It was a joke. It was a joke.
SLIWA: The only Klansman who's still in the United States Senate is a Democrat.
NORTON: He's not a Klansman anymore. It was a joke!
SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Let me ask you — let me ask you this question. I really don't care what she says, although it is offensive if you're a conservative or Republican. It's meant to be a shot. It's saying you're racist. But that's fine.
What bothers me is the double standard here that exists. You know and I know that conservatives on the radio, if they say anything that's over the line, they're going to go after them, they're going to want to shut them down, they're going to target their advertisers. Isn't that a problem for everybody?
NORTON: Of course. It's disgusting. Again, we've become a country of hall monitors. We like to be offended. There's a phony sense of empowerment when you're offended.
HANNITY: Now, I've heard you on Opie & Anthony. You go as far over the line as anybody that I've ever heard.
NORTON: Sure, it's spoken word comedy. I'm not a policymaker.
HANNITY: No. But it's the point. Should there be any limits, period?
NORTON: As long as you're not violating the FCC or — you know, the what — time, place and matter and free speech, no. It was a joke. It got a big laugh. Everybody knew she was kidding.
Stupid Barry Manilow was supposed to go on the show. And what does he do? He allows that dumb Elisabeth's politics to — affect him and not come on the show.
HANNITY: He wants to sell his album, which is part of it.
NORTON: He stinks. His job is to write fruity...
HANNITY: But I'm concerned about this, because you say outrageous things...
SLIWA: No question.
HANNITY: They're going to want to shut you down when you step over the line one day. I would rather, for the most part, everybody — Joy Behar and Rosie O'Donnell, and Jim Norton and "Opie & Anthony" and "Curtis and Kuby", and you guys say anything you want. And if anybody does not like it, turn the radio dial. How's that?
SLIWA: No question.
HANNITY: Or the TV dial.
SLIWA: But...when you feed the monster, as "Joy-less" Behar was doing, trying to create this stereotype — hey, wasn't it the Democrats who decided not to attend the Black Congressional Caucus/Harry Reid/FOX News Channel, Democratic debate? Now who's ducking black votes here?
HANNITY: Jesse Jackson, what was the comment, that Barack Obama's "acting white"?
SLIWA: Acting white!
HANNITY: What if Don Imus — what if Curtis Sliwa — or what if you said that? Well, you can say whatever you want.
SLIWA: White people never hold people like Jesse Jackson and Sharpton to the same standards. There's this really weird superiority complex. They don't hold black people to the same speech standards, because they expect black people to say things like that. They don't expect other white people to say it.
HANNITY: Wait a minute. What do you mean they expect them to say that?
No, I don't think it's that at all. I think there's a double standard in society. I think Jesse Jackson can get away with that, but that would be a career ender for this guy in the red beret, right here.
NORTON: That's what I'm saying. That people do not hold him to the same standard as they hold other white people. Imus is held to higher standards as a talk show host.
HANNITY: Imus never should have been fired. I agree.
NORTON: I agree.
SLIWA: Al "Slim Shady" Sharpton. If you said the same things as your liberal, progressive friend that he is, he's probably (makes hand gestures on face) — holding each other on the cheeks.
COLMES: I'm waiting for you to renounce Ted Nugent. I'm waiting for you to renounce Ann Coulter for that horrible...
COLMES: Renounce Rick Santorum for comparing Democrats and Nazis. Where are you renouncing these people? When does this happen? You want to do it right now? Will you renounce Ted Nugent?
HANNITY: That's Alan Colmes. Go ahead, renounce him.
SLIWA: I'm not trying to (UNINTELLIGIBLE) Ted Nugent.
SLIWA: Alan Colmes — Alan Colmes. You know, he has consistently put the shiv in guys like me.
COLMES: You poor thing. You poor thing.
SLIWA: Everytime we get on FOX News Channel.
HANNITY: OK. We've got to run.
COLMES: You poor little thing. I feel so bad for you.
HANNITY: We'll take a quick break — we'll come back. And when we come back...
COLMES: Coming up — I've got the reader.
HANNITY: Oh he's, got — No, I do, actually.
COLMES: Oh you do?
HANNITY: Curtis will renounce Alan Colmes.
COLMES: I can't wait.
