Was Money a Motive in Corbin Murder?

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: The Georgia dentist accused of killing his wife and dental school girlfriend is facing a brand-new legal battle. His father-in-law has just filed a civil suit against Barton Corbin. Jennifer Corbin's father, Max Barber, joins us from Atlanta. Welcome, sir.

MAX BARBER, FATHER OF SLAIN WOMAN: Greta, it's good talking to you again.

VAN SUSTEREN: All right. Nice to see you too, sir. So you've filed a civil action. What have you filed?

BARBER: I'm basically trying to protect the estate of Jenny. I'm making sure, or trying to make sure that the value of the estate can be protected, if at all possible — the children's clothing, the children's furniture. There were some personal gifts given to Jenny by Narda and myself. There [were] gifts given to Jenny by Mr. Corbin. They have a houseboat that the deed is in Jennifer's name. We're trying to protect that.

VAN SUSTEREN: And so basically, the survivor of Jenny — at this point — is her husband. So he owns the houseboat. So if he turned around and sold it, he could pocket, or put the proceeds in his bank account, rather than the children's. Is that a fair?

BARBER: Well, in the state of Georgia you cannot profit from the death of a spouse, if in fact, you can be tried for that crime and found guilty. And again, we're talking about some time away, Greta. But right now, the process is, is that the two children, Dalton and Dillon, need as much of the physical property that they remember of their mother and their father. I want to make sure those properties are protected.

VAN SUSTEREN: Has Dr. Corbin attempted to sell anything since the death of your daughter on December 4?

BARBER: As I understand, much has been taken out of the house. I understand — and I'm talking third party because I'm still trying today to find out the answer, but I was told this past weekend that the houseboat is now gone and that there is a new owner of that houseboat.

VAN SUSTEREN: The two boys — they're young boys, 6 and 7 years old. One of them discovered his mother dead. Are they aware of the fact that their father is in jail, charged in connection with that murder?

BARBER: Yes, they are.

VAN SUSTEREN: How do you explain it to them?

BARBER: It hasn't been difficult because so much of it has been on television, especially locally in Atlanta. They ask questions, we answer the questions. We don't elaborate, but we answer the questions they ask us.

VAN SUSTEREN: Have they asked to see their father in jail, or has Dr. Corbin asked to see his two boys?

BARBER: Neither one, Dalton or Dillon, has asked me.

VAN SUSTEREN: So where do we stand now in terms of the case? There are these two murder cases that are pending against him, one 14 years old for a classmate and one your daughter, to whom he was married. Any trial dates on either one of them, sir?

BARBER: Neither one. I do stay in touch with Danny Porter, the district attorney of Gwinnett County, and there are no solid plans on either case yet. We will hear further as it develops.

VAN SUSTEREN: But so far, no trial date on either one of them.

BARBER: No trial date at all. I do have a hearing in March in regards to Jennifer's estate and as to the executorship of that estate.

VAN SUSTEREN: All right. Well, we'll be following that. Thank you, sir. It's nice to see you.

BARBER: Greta, it's good to see you again.
