Better Safe Than Sorry

So now some Muslims are very upset at us.

Did you hear about this? A front-page story in the Monday's USA Today that reveals Arabs seeking to come to this country are ticked off at this country.

Why? Because we're really clamping down on how many of them come in.

I'm reading this article and saying to myself, "Hey, am I missing something here?" Surely these guys remember Sept. 11, right? We were attacked. We were and are cautious. We're not saying all Arabs are bad. But we are saying we're not going to take any chances.

So shock of shocks, some Muslims are seeing visas delayed or denied. They call it classic racial profiling. But before you dump on this country whose vast resources you have no trouble using, consider this: The leaders of that attack on U.S. soil were from your soil -- steeped in your religion and adherents to your politics.

They were crazy, but back in your neck of the woods I didn't hear them roundly condemned.

Trust me, profiling isn't ideal. But neither is attacking and killing innocent thousands. We know that many from your part of the world hate our part of the world.

History proves we sometimes overdo these things, as was the case with Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor and German Americans during World War II.

But pardon me for sounding impolitic, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

The times have changed. Nuts from your part of the world made that happen. We're just doing our best to make sure it doesn't happen again.
