NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: Online retailer Amazon.com just bagged some big business, inking deals with 400 retailers in an effort to create a one-stop-shopping site just in time for the holiday rush. Here to talk about the deal, Amazon's CEO, Jeff Bezos.
Jeff, good to see you.
CAVUTO: First on your holiday sales forecast, how do you think it is looking?
BEZOS: Well, you know, we are guardedly optimistic, we won't know until January. And it is way too early to know how the quarter is going to shape up. But based on our Q3 sales, I think we should be very optimistic.
CAVUTO: All right. Because there are a lot of economic groups and all these knuckleheads who are saying, oh, it's going to be horrible, horrible, horrible, Christmas, Hanukah sales will be down if there are gains at all. What say you?
BEZOS: Well, I think we are positioned very well for these uncertain economic times mainly because over the last year-and-a-half, we've lowered prices so significantly five times and now have free shipping on orders over $25 with our Super Saver Shipping, 30 percent off of books over $15, really competitive prices in electronics and others areas. So those are really the things that, you know, customers are definitely going to be looking for value this holiday season, I believe, and we are ready for that. Amazon.com has been getting ready for that for a year-and-a-half.
CAVUTO: Jeff, I should disclose to people, I use your service quite often. And I don't like to shop, so I am wondering now with this link up that you have done with so many retailers, whether the whole idea is to entice a bunch of lazy knuckleheads like myself to shop online?
BEZOS: Well, certainly there are a whole bunch of people who don't like to shop. But there are also people, maybe, who even do like to shop but are very time pressured. And so shopping online can save people time. It is one of the major reasons every stitch of clothing I'm wearing right now was purchased from our new apparel store, including my Eddie Bauer underwear, and my Haines T-shirt and my Nordstrom shirt.
CAVUTO: We don't need to know all of this.
CAVUTO: In other words, so with this hook up with Nordstrom, do I go to the Nordstrom site or do I find it on your site?
BEZOS: You type in Amazon.com and you'll find an apparel tab. And you click on that apparel tab and you will find apparel the Amazon way. So it is 400 major clothing brands all.
CAVUTO: So let me ask you this, so when I get a box with the good sent to me, is it in a Nordstrom box or is it in some Amazon.com box?
BEZOS: It can be some of both. So with some of our partners..
CAVUTO: See, my wife would prefer the Nordstrom box, nothing against Amazon. But you are saying that you can do that.
BEZOS: It will be some of both. Some of the partners are doing the shipping themselves. In some cases we are helping with shipping and fulfillment. The key thing here is not only can you get this vast selection of all these different major clothing brands, but you can do it with your current Amazon.com account information. So you have already got your shipping information on file, your credit card information on file. And as a special incentive for people to go ahead and try the service, because we think it is so good right now, you can get a special $30 promotional certificate if you buy $50 or more in apparel. So that is certainly something I would encourage your viewers to do.
CAVUTO: All right. Jeff Bezos, good seeing you again my friend.
BEZOS: Nice to see you, Neil, thank you.
CAVUTO: Amazon.com CEO joining us out of Seattle, Washington, Jeff Bezos.
