Daniel Ortega

José Daniel Ortega Saavedra (; born 11 November 1945) is a Nicaraguan politician. He is the current President of Nicaragua (since 2007), a position he has held previously between 1985 and 1990. A leader in the socialist Sandinista National Liberation Front (Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional, FSLN), his policies in government have seen the implementation of leftist reforms across Nicaragua.

4 police injured in clashes during protest march by foes of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega

At least four Nicaraguan police officers have been injured in clashes with demonstrators protesting President Daniel Ortega's bid to win re-election.

Protesters threw stones after police blocked their march through the capital of Managua on Saturday.About 1,000 demonstrators turned out to oppose the president's decision to enter the Nov. 5 election.
