La epidemia de cólera promovió progreso en salud pública de Haití

Washington, 9 oct (EFEUSA).- La epidemia de cólera que deja más de 8.000 personas muertas en Haití desde 2010 ha promovido un progreso en la salud pública de ese país que podría evitar miles de muertes y proteger a la población contra otras enfermedades, según artículos que publica hoy American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.La revista publicó estudios, en colaboración con la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (PAHO) en el tercer aniversario del brote de cólera en Haití."Esta enfermedad terrible se convirtió en un llamado a la acción que podría tener efectos de largo alcance para la población haitiana más allá de poner fin a la propagación del cólera", señaló John Andrus, subdirector de la PAHO."Hemos bregado para mejorar todo el sistema de salud pública de Haití durante décadas", añadió Andrus.
