As the World Turns (often referred to as ATWT) is an American television soap opera that aired on CBS from April 2, 1956 to September 17, 2010. Irna Phillips created As the World Turns as a sister show to her other soap opera The Guiding Light.

'All My Children' and 'One Life to Life' Canceled: Which Soap Opera Alum Became the Biggest Star?

With the cancellation of ABC's " All My Children " and "One Life to Life," it seems like the soap opera era is all but dead.

ABC said the decision to cancel the shows was based on audience research.
