Seattle's Rosales named MLS Newcomer of the Year

Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Mauro Rosales was named the 2011 Major League Soccer Newcomer of the Year on Tuesday.The 30-year-old Argentinean had five goals and 13 assists in 26 matches during the regular season to claim the award that honors the player with previous pro experience who makes the biggest impact in his first season in MLS.Rosales joined Seattle after having played at Argentina club River Plate, and captured the award ahead of fellow finalists Luke Rodgers of Red Bull New York and Eric Hassli of the Vancouver Whitecaps."Mauro was a splendid addition to our team," said Sounders coach Sigi Schmid . "His creativity, enthusiasm and quality added greatly to our team success in 2011. He is a deserving winner of this award."Rosales made 10 appearances for Argentina's national team in 2004 and he won a Gold Medal with Argentina at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece .
