A Luge () is a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleds supine (face up) and feet-first. Steering is done by flexing the sled's runners with the calf of each leg or exerting opposite shoulder pressure to the seat.

Luge track for 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi tested for 1st time by local, foreign lugers

The newly built luge track for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi has been tested for the first time.

Russia luge coach Valery Silakov told RIA Novosti news agency that local and foreign lugers tried out the track on Monday.He says the track is "not very challenging" and "it's unlikely that there will be a lot of falls."The construction of the Sochi luge, bobsled and skeleton track has come under tight scrutiny following the death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili during a high-speed training run in Whistler just hours before the opening of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.Silakov praised the Sochi track as "quite decent."He said construction work on the track itself has finished. But work continues at surrounding facilities, making testing difficult....
