    Virginia Tech extends Beamer's contract

    Virginia Tech has extended the contract of head football coach Frank Beamer through the end of 2016.Beamer, whose current contract ends at the end of 2012, is entering his 25th season as the Hokies' head coach."I am very pleased that head football coach Frank Beamer has signed a new contract with the university that will take us through the 2016 season," Hokies director of athletics Jim Weaver said. "Frank has done an outstanding job in his 24 years at Virginia Tech and we look forward to his continued leadership as we strive to win a national championship."Virginia Tech went 11-3 last season but lost to Stanford in the Orange Bowl .
