Allergies are diseases of the immune system that cause an overreaction to substances called “allergens,” according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA). Symptoms can range from itchy eyes around cats or sneezing during the spring, to serious and even life-threatening repercussions that might result when one is allergic to a certain food or bee sting.
