James Andrew Beard (May 5, 1903 – January 21, 1985) was an American chef and food writer. The central figure in the story of the establishment of a gourmet American food identity, Beard was an eccentric personality who brought French cooking to the American middle and upper classes in the 1950s.

The James Beard Foundation , named after "the father of American cuisine," announced the nominees at The Azure Pool at The Venetian and The Palazzo in Las Vegas. The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception on May 7, presented by Food Network personality Alton Brown .
