Ivory Coast army arrests militia leader

Officials in Ivory Coast say the military has detained a militia leader accused of grave crimes during the country's 2010-11 postelection violence whose forces had been illegally occupying a national park.Amade Oueremi, a native of Burkina Faso, fought alongside forces backing President Alassane Ouattara in the conflict. He had become a symbol of alleged impunity for Ouattara's military backers.Denis Badouon, vice mayor in the western town of Duekoue, said Oueremi was taken into custody Saturday morning. A military commander, who insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the operation, said Oueremi turned himself in.It was not immediately clear whether Oueremi had been charged with a crime. Human Rights Watch has identified him as a main perpetrator of a notorious March 2011 massacre in Duekoue....
