Cards' Berkman has torn meniscus

Louis Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman had an MRI on Monday which revealed a torn meniscus in his right knee.The MRI did not reveal an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament, but a noted surgeon and knee specialist is scheduled to provide a second opinion later in the week, according to MLB.com.The 14-year veteran was injured Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers while stretching to make a catch at first base on a routine ground ball hit to shortstop Rafael Furcal.Berkman was helped off the field and was initially diagnosed with a right knee strain before being placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.The six-time All-Star is batting .333 with five doubles, a homer and four runs batted in this season, but has played just 13 games.St. Louis has brought up first baseman Matt Adams from Triple-A Memphis.
