Fallout 4's Pip-Boy Edition -- complete with a "wearable Pip-Boy" and a giant capsule case -- is certainly one of the most popular special editions in recent memory, and it's sold out at every major retailer. If you've been waiting for it to go back in stock so you can shoot Ghouls while wearing your phone on your forearm, it looks like you're out of luck: Bethesda doesn't plan to make any more of them.
Speaking to GameSpot at the recent Quakecon event, Bethesda's Pete Hines said that the company "hit the factory limit" on production of the Pip-Boy Edition and simply can't make more of them.
The Pip-Boy itself functions as a fancy holder for your phone, and the Fallout 4 companion app will be released separately, as well. Along with the Pip-Boy and case, the package also includes a steelbook, a poster, and a "Pocket Guide" to help you navigate a beautiful post-apocalyptic Massachusetts.
"We reached a point where we'd go back to the factories and they were like, 'guys, this is it, sorry,'" Hines said. According to Hines, more Pip-Boy Editions were created than any other special edition that Bethesda had ever done. This includes the Wolfenstein: The New Order Panzerhund Edition, which is still available to purchase directly from Bethesda, and does not come with a copy of the game itself.
Supply problems aside, the production of the Pip-Boy Editions went otherwise smoothly, and they're scheduled to ship on November 10, one day before the game releases. This is in contrast to WB's Batman: Arkham Knight Batmobile Edition, which was cancelled just before release due to the poor quality of the Batmobile itself. If you're still hounding for Fallout memorabilia, the Fallout Anthology might just be what you need. The set includes every Fallout game for PC, packaged in a mini-nuke "with audible bomb sound."
