A YouTube video that quickly went viral as millions watched a German man appearing to saw everything he and his ex-wife owned in half was revealed to be a fake this week.

The video, titled “für laura”, was actually a publicity stunt by Deutsche Anwaltauskunft, an online legal magazine operated by the German Bar Association. After going viral, the story of the video was reported by a number of news outlets, including FoxNews.com.

“Sometimes you have to do things by halves to raise awareness for an important issue," a representative of the magazine said in a statement. The representative explained the intention was to humorously highlight the fact that too few married couples take precautions for a possible separation.
