BREMERTON -- The USS John C. Stennis trained with its strike group this month without leaving the pier.

Before departing June 8 from Naval Base Kitsap for at-sea training, the aircraft carrier and Carrier Strike Group Three completed the Fleet Synthetic Training-Joint Exercise.

During the weeklong exercise, the strike group worked with the Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force and foreign militaries to complete several simulated scenarios based on real-world events. The strike group practiced planning and integrating the many ships and aircraft that comprise it, in a virtual joint battlespace.

The exercise was run by Tactical Training Group Pacific, based in San Diego, and brought participants from around the world together on a virtual network.

Now that the simulated exercise is complete, the Stennis and its strike group are ready for the next phase in predeployment training, Composite Training Unit Exercise, during which the entire strike group will be underway.
