A number of Tumblr accounts appear to be compromised and are now filled with offensive, spam blog posts. Buzzfeed has screenshots of the mayhem.
It also appears possible that visiting a compromised Tumblr page can affect a user’s account. So far, the best strategy to keep a Tumblr blog safe might be to stay off the site for the time being.
Tumblr tweeted from its main Twitter account that it is aware of the issue and is currently investigating it, calling it a “viral post circulating on Tumblr.”
When asked for comment, a Tumblr representative responded with the following:
There is a viral post circulating on Tumblr which begins “Dearest ‘Tumblr’ users”. If you have viewed this post, please log out of all browsers that may be using Tumblr immediately. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible. Thank you.
