Westbrook's animal control officer has been charged with one count of cruelty to animals involving a dog.
Tanya Marocco, also manager at the Valley Shore Animal Welfare League, has been arrested on a warrant sought by the state Department of Agriculture.
The arrest follows an investigation into a malnourished dog that was under her care at the animal welfare league facility in town.
Marocco has been released on a $500 bond. She's scheduled to appear in court in Middletown next month.
The animal welfare league, a non-profit organization founded in 1972, operates a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats, according to the organization's Web site.
