Mutilated Afghan Teen to Receive Plastic Surgery in U.S.

An Afghan teen is in Los Angeles for plastic surgery after her ear and nose were cut off by her abusive husband, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Bibi Aisha, who was recently featured on the cover of Time Magazine, said her husband was punishing her for trying to run away, and he had Taliban approval. Aisha’s photo appeared with the headline "What Happens if We Leave Afghanistan."

Dr. Peter H. Grossman, co-director of the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and his wife, Rebecca, saw Aisha on TV and decided they could help her.

Aisha will have reconstruction of her nose using bone, tissue and cartilage from other parts of her body if it is feasible, if not, she will receive a prosthetic nose, Grossman said.

Grossman’s foundation paid for Aisha to come to the U.S., where she’s staying with a host family.
