About 13,500 girls' coats sold at major retailers were recalled on Thursday because they have detachable capes with strings that could present a choking hazard.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the wool coats made in Guatemala for S. Rothschild & Co. of New York, were sold between September 2006 and September 2009 at Burlington Coat Factory, Famous Barr, Filene's Basement, Parisian and other stores nationwide.

The coats, which range from infant sizes up to size 16, were sold in pink, red, blue and off-white, with a fake fur cape, and in charcoal and off-white with a fake fur trimmed cape. The sewn-in neck tag reads, "Rothschild since 1881."

Consumers can get more information by calling S. Rothschild at 800-223-2664 or logging on to the firm's website.
