Quick, witty, warm, full of life. And now, dead. I cannot believe it: The indestructible Art Linkletter is dead at 97 years old.

We're told he died at his home in Los Angeles. Peacefully, as it should be for a man who defined class in anything but a peaceful life and times.

In the 1960s, after his daughter's suicide, Art became an outspoken crusader against drugs and an even more outspoken crusader for kids.

I remember most his chats with children, where they said the darndest things and Art darn near patented the line.

A calm, gentle, warm soul who loved to give and give back and a favorite on my show because he did.

I pray now this man who calmed so many has now found calm himself.

Art Linkletter; dead at 97.
