Hospital Officials Dispel Allegations of 'Beauty Salon' in Infant ICU

Los Angeles County health officials say they can't substantiate anonymous claims that staff at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center ran a makeshift beauty salon in an intensive care ward for newborns.

Officials say they've been unable to confirm seven out of 11 allegations made to an accreditation agency.

Sixteen workers at the county-run hospital did receive free nail or eyebrow services from an employee during breaks.

Officials say that mostly took place outside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit — although an unoccupied ICU room was used twice.

Two employees were placed on paid leave after the allegations were made.

County officials also say they couldn't substantiate allegations that the ICU was understaffed and had unqualified workers.
