BERLIN – German police say four heavily armed robbers who stormed a poker tournament and escaped with the jackpot are still on the run.
Spokesman Guido Busch says police are evaluating surveillance footage and going through witness statements following Saturday's brazen daylight heist at the downtown Berlin Grand Hyatt hotel.
Busch said Sunday that the robbers, armed with machetes and guns, forced hotel employees to hand them the tournament's jackpot money — which stood at $1.36 million — before escaping on foot through a nearby shopping mall, then fled in a getaway car.
Police did not disclose the amount of money stolen. Local media reports say the robbers managed to get away with $272,000.
