A laid-off Sacramento County sheriff's deputy is under arrest on suspicion of kidnapping and sexually molesting a 13-year-old girl.

Lincoln police arrested 39-year-old Eric Cephus of San Jose at his home Tuesday night.

Police Lt. Paul Shelgren said the department began investigating Cephus on Feb. 27 after talking to the girl.

Shelgren said Cephus's alleged first contact with the girl happened while he was on duty and in uniform.

Cephus was laid off from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department in August and placed on "on call" status.

Cephus was to be booked into the Placer County Jail on Wednesday. Investigators said they are looking into whether there may be other alleged victims in the case.
