A British mother spent three months in agony after doctors left a 7-inch set of forceps inside her during a routine operation, The Sun reported.

Donna Bowett went in for surgery to remove her gallbladder a year ago and was left in so much pain she could barely move.

"The doctors thought I had a water infection or another gallstone," the 39-year-old said.

She was given an MRI scan at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Worcestershire but the magnets began to pull the metal forceps through her skin.

"The pain was horrendous," the mother-of-four said. "I started crying and they asked me if I had anything metal on me."

Bowett, who is taking legal action, finally had an X-ray at Worcestershire Hospital, where she works, and the scan detected the forceps.

"I still can't believe it's happened in this day and age," she said. "I was so ill and grey. I'm still not right — it might have damaged my internal organs."
