An Iraqi police official says a homicide bomber detonated an explosives belt at a popular restaurant in a Shiite holy city north of Baghdad, killing at least two people.
The official says the blast occurred at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday at a falafel restaurant in Samarra. At least 20 people were wounded.
The official says the bomber targeted the restaurant because it is popular with security forces.
A medical official at Samarra hospital confirmed the casualties.
Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
Samarra's gold-domed shrine was destroyed in an insurgent attack in 2006, setting off months of sectarian violence.
