Arthur E. Bartlett, who co-founded the Century 21 real estate company, has died at his home in San Diego County. He was 76.
His daughter says Bartlett died on New Year's Eve at his Coronado home. He had Alzheimer's disease and other illnesses.
Bartlett and Marshall Fisher opened the first Century 21 office in Santa Ana in 1971. The concept involved conversion franchising, in which independent real estate agents united under the same brand.
Century 21 was sold seven years later to Trans World Corp. for $89 million in cash and stock. The company is now a subsidiary of Realogy Corp. and has 7,700 franchise offices in dozens of countries. Realogy is based in Parsippany, N.J.
