Authorities are investigating a burglary at the California home of a family of four killed when their minivan was rammed by a speeding car.

Police in Sonoma say they found the home of Johnathan and Susan Maloney ransacked Tuesday, with valuables and a vehicle missing. They were called to the home by a neighbor who reported seeing the garage open.

Police Chief Bret Sackett says the crime was "incredibly despicable" and that it appeared the burglars spent a considerable amount of time going through the family's possessions Monday night.

The couple and their two young children were killed Saturday when a car going 70 to 90 mph ran a red light and struck their minivan as the family was returning from a trip to Hawaii. The driver of the car died Sunday.
