The murder trial of the man accused in Chandra Levy's death has been postponed until Oct. 4.

Ingmar Guandique had been scheduled to stand trial on first-degree murder and other charges in January. But prosecutors told a D.C. Superior Court judge that they plan to file additional charges.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Fernando Campoamor declined to name the new charges.

Levy, a federal intern, disappeared in May 2001. Her body was found in Rock Creek Park a year later.

The 28-year-old Guandique has been serving a 10-year prison sentence for attacking two women at knifepoint in the park around the same time as Levy's disappearance.

Levy was romantically linked to former U.S. Rep. Gary Condit. Authorities questioned the California Democrat, but he was never a suspect.
