Barbie's been given a makeover again — but this time she's wearing a burqa.

The iconic doll will wear the traditional Islamic dress for an auction in connection with Sotheby's Save the Children charity, the U.K.'s Daily Mail newspaper reported.

More than 500 dolls went on display in Florence, Italy, as part of Barbie's celebrations for her 50th anniversary this year. Mattel is reportedly backing the exhibit, partly the work of Italian designer Eliana Lorena.

"I know Barbie was something seen as bad before as an image for girls, but in actual fact the message with Barbie for women is you can be whatever you want to be," Lorena told the Daily Mail.

Charity spokeswoman Rosie Shannon told the Daily Mail all proceeds from the burqa-clad Barbie sales will benefit Save the Children.
