Police say a suburban Philadelphia woman lying in bed was struck by a bullet that came through a wall, killing her.

Investigators recovered a dozen shell casings from a gun battle outside.

Police say Kathy Ann Stewart was talking on the phone with her fiance Sunday night in the second-floor bedroom of her mother's home in Chester when the bullet came through the wall.

When Stewart suddenly stopped talking, the fiance called the house, and a family member found Stewart unconscious.

The 49-year-old mother of three died Tuesday morning.

Police Capt. Joseph Massi says gunfights are common in that neighborhood of Chester, an economically struggling city southwest of Philadelphia.

Police say they are trying to identify two males caught on surveillance videos.
