BAKU, Azerbaijan – Azerbaijan has restored a Turkish flag to a war memorial after removing it this month during a spat with Ankara.
Relations between the traditional allies were strained when Turkey restored relations with Armenia this month.
Football fans protesting a game between the Armenian and Turkish teams were prevented from carrying Azerbaijani flags into the stadium in Turkey. Reports that the flags were thrown into trash bins caused Azerbaijan to formally protest and accuse Turkey of disrespecting its state flag.
Turkey's flag was then removed from the memorial honoring Turkish soldiers in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku.
It was restored late Tuesday after a visit last week by the Turkish foreign minister.
