An Oakland woman is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities say they discovered cats with broken limbs and crudely cut off claws in her possession.

La Preda Thomas. 33, was arraigned Friday on two felony counts of animal cruelty. Authorities say during two searches of Thomas's home this summer, they found kittens with every limb fractured or previously broken and a cat with a shattered hip.

In all, Thomas is accused of abusing more than 15 cats and kittens over several years. According to police, she told investigators she rescued animals with unusual injuries.

Police say most of the cats are healing and some have been placed in new homes.

Thomas is being held on $135,000 bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
