Six motorists trapped in floodwaters have been rescued and a day care was evacuated after thunderstorms dumped several inches of rain in southern Texas.
The San Antonio Express-News reports that crews waded through chest-deep water Tuesday to carry about 90 preschool-aged children from a Laredo day care. The children were not injured and the day care was not flooded.
Laredo Fire Department spokesman Eloy Vega says the storms caused flooding at 12 intersections that trapped the motorists. He had no reports of casualties or damage in the city, which is 150 miles south of San Antonio.
The town of Encinal, located 40 miles north of Laredo, received the heaviest rain at 7 inches.
