Mystery surrounds the death of a 79-year-old woman, reportedly found with a gunshot wound to the head on the patio of her home, in what the chief of police calls "one of the safest communities in California."

The woman's murder is only the fifth the Marin community has seen in the last 40 years, Tiburon Police Chief Michael Cronin told KTVU.

“This is traumatic…It (a murder) happens once in a decade,” he said.

There was no sign of forced entry into the home or theft and police have no suspect or motive, but suicide has been ruled out, he told the station.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Department will be aiding in the investigation, Cronin told KTVU.
