A baby boy from Afghanistan is recovering and doing well following an operation to remove the torso, legs and hands of his dead conjoined twin.

Despite the nature of the birth, the infant was otherwise healthy when he was born last week in the northern region of the country, Agence-France Presse reported.

"The parts of the other body stuck to the child were alive for some time after the birth, but soon died, and it was those parts that we successfully removed," Dr. Homayoun Khamoosh of Kunduz hospital told the AFP.
