Evacuation Checklist

If your local authorities say to evacuate, EVACUATE! They've determined that the threat to your safety is too great for you to remain in your home. You should evacuate as early as possible to avoid encountering road closures, severe weather, etc. Here are some general guidelines to follow when evacuating:

Pre-fueled Car
If evacuation is a possibility, make sure to have a full tank of gas in your car. Gas stations may not be open during an emergency.
Follow instructions
Use your battery-operated radio to listen to updates provided by your local authorities.
The Shelter
Make sure you have everything you need for a shelter. Click here for our checklist
Wear sturdy shoes and clothing that provides you some protection from the elements (long-sleeved shirt, pants, socks, a hat).
Your House
Secure your home by locking all windows and doors, and unplugging electrical equipment.
Stick to recommended evacuation routes. Other roads may be closed or be filled with debris. Be alert for flooded roads and avoid downed power lines.
Tell a Friend
If possible, let a family member or friend know where you are going.
