A media specialist in the Beebe School District has resigned after being charged with having sex with a student.

White County prosecutors charged 36-year-old Rebecca Sue Harvey with first-degree sexual assault last Wednesday.

Beebe Superintendent Belinda Shook says Harvey worked with third- and fourth-graders and would not have had contact with the student at school. Shook says the student has now graduated and Harvey has resigned.

Police say they were first notified May 19 that a school employee was having sex with a student.

Capt. Eddie Cullum says the boy has given a written statement saying he had sex with Harvey several times and that she provided him with alcohol.
