Owner Convicted in Deadly Argentian Nightclub Fire

A nightclub owner has been convicted in the fire that killed 193 fans of the Callejeros band in Argentina four years ago. But the judges found the band members innocent of criminal charges.

The long-awaited verdict prompted an uproar in the courtroom and outside the justice building, where family members and followers of the band punched each other and police struggled to keep them apart.

Concert promoter Omar Chaban will stay free while he appeals the 20-year sentence for bribery and causing the fire.

Also free pending appeals are police officials, the band manager and city inspectors.

Survivors of the tragedy see Wednesday's verdict as another test of their movement to make Argentina's government less corrupt.
