WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Jury selection has begun in the trial of two suspects accused in the 2007 rape and assault of a mother and her young son.
Police say Nathan Walker, now 18, and Tommy Lee Poindexter, now 20, burst into the woman's apartment in the projects with up to eight other teenagers. The victims say they endured horror as the mother was gang-raped and sodomized and her 12-year-old son beaten in another room. The woman, a 35-year-old Haitian immigrant, was also forced to perform sex acts on her son.
Jury selection for Walker and Poindexter began Tuesday. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Another boy charged in the case is set for trial in September. A fourth has pleaded guilty and will testify against the others.
Authorities are still looking for other suspects.
