A National Guard soldier who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan has drowned in a lake along the Georgia-South Carolina border.

Multiple media outlets report that 28-year-old Brad Daniel Seawright's body was recovered Sunday morning by divers searching Lake Russell.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore says the Hartwell, Ga., man had been out on a boat with friends Saturday afternoon. Shore says Seawright went overboard when the boat slowed to go under a bridge and hit his head on the bottom of the boat.

Divers searched until dark and found Seawright's body after resuming their search Sunday morning.

Seawright's mother says her son received a Purple Heart for his service in Afghanistan.
